2. Gulf War Oil Spill
This is the largest oil spill caused by war. During the Gulf War, retreating Iraqi forces tried to open the oil pipeline valves to slow down the pursuing American troops. This is the largest marine oil spill on record. For three months, oil continuous spilled in the Persian Gulf and great effort was needed to cap the leak. There were many lives wasted and others injured in the attempt to stop the spill.
