8. Amoco Cadiz
During a severe storm, the Amoco Cadiz, a Very large Crude Carrier (VLCC), split into two as it tried to dock in the Portsall Rocks, off the coast of Brittany, France. The carrier sank so quickly that there was not enough time to pump the oil out from the wreckage. The oil spill has the highest number of marine life killed.
