7. Darl McBride: Declaring War on the Entire Linux Community


When Darl joined SCO, the company already faced serious problems with the failure to market a variant of IA-64. Darl blamed IBM for the decision to scuttle the sales of IA-64 variant and he became completely focused on litigation efforts instead of product development. SCO also sued various Linux vendors, such as Novell and Red Hat, and it even targeted end-users. This turned SCO into a company nobody loved. The debacle went on continuously and SCO’s sales slumped significantly. Darl finally ceased his fruitless efforts and left the company in 2009 after SCO filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
