So many crimes have been solved since modern fingerprinting techniques came into wide use. However, the first reported uses of it were in 14th Century Persia. Fingerprints are now taken using black ink pressed onto white card. These are then fed into a database, so when finger prints are dusted at a crime scene, police officers can match them with a suspect.
