A silky, rich dessert made from primarily ice, milk, cream, and sugar, the origins of ice cream date to thousands of years B.C. The name ice cream itself was introduced in 1776 when the first ice cream shop opened in the U.S. Presently, ice cream is readily available in traditional flavors such as chocolate and vanilla, but the extensive range of flavors worldwide increases daily. While this cool confection can be served in many ways, it is commonly accompanied by a cone.
