3. Fried Dough
While this creation cannot be credited to any one particular individual or nation, it can certainly be enjoyed by nearly anyone in any part of the globe. In its simplest form, fried dough is risen yeast dough which has been deep-fried and served hot. This description may sound simple, but this fair favorite can be found in countless variations often with regionally unique names and toppings. Regularly referred to as funnel cake or elephant ear, fried dough is frequently topped with one or more of the following: powdered sugar, chocolate, fruit, honey, and whipped cream. The variations may differ, but fried dough can almost assuredly be found at a fair near you.
