1. Fries
Often referred to and popularized from a marketing perspective as “French fries,” deep-fried potatoes have been enjoyed across the globe for centuries. While the origin of these tasty spuds is hotly contested, their popularity cannot be contested by any measure. Traditionally consisting of long, thin slices of freshly-cut potato, they only become fries after being cooked to a crispy golden brown and salted. Today, fries are cut, cooked, dipped and topped in seemingly innumerous manners. Many of the enduring favorites such as ketchup, vinegar, cheese, chili, and gravy, are now joined by new faves like cheese curds and duck pâté. Any way you slice them, fry them, dip them, and top them, fries in some form can be found at the fair.
