4. LaLaurie House in New Orleans, Louisiana
This 1800s mansion in the French Quarter of the city is said to have belonged to physician Louis LaLaurie and his wife Delphine. She is said to have been responsible for the murder of a 12-year-old girl and there were many rumours that they treated their slaves terribly.
When a fire broke out in the house, the door to the slave quarters was broken down to rescue them, only to find them chained up in a makeshift dungeon. It’s said that the ghost of Delphine and the girl she supposedly murdered still haunt the house today.
