8. Joshua Ward House in Salem, Massachusetts
This is the home of George Corwin who was the Sheriff at the time when the Salem witch trials were taking place. A local man, Giles Corey, was charged with witchcraft and Corwin used an old English legal precedent to get Corey to talk. Corey was placed under a board and piled with rocks. He refused to speak and was eventually crushed to death.
It’s said that the ghost of both Giles Corey and Sheriff Corwin haunt the house.
