4. Myrtle Corbin
In 1868, Myrtle Corbin was born with a dipygus twin that didn’t develop, giving him a total of four legs; two unusable, small legs dangled between Corbin’s real legs. Her family realized the commercial value and at age 13, she joined a sideshow circuit. Exhibited by the no other than P.T. Barnum, Myrtle Corbin amazed many people with her unfortunate situation. Myrtle’s case was notable in the medical community, as the teratology (a study if physical abnormalities) was on the rise. Medical journals, detailing her physical condition and her childbirth experience, were widely published.
