6. Julia Pastrana
Julia Pastrana was born around 1834 in Mexican orphanage with gingival hyperthrophy and congenital generalized hypertrichosis terminalis, which were indicated by her noticeable protruding jaw, enlarged gums and excessive hair growth. Charles Darwin and other hailed her as a cross between human and ape, as the medical community at the time couldn’t explain her apelike visage.
Later, Julia was medically examined and it became clear to scientists and doctors that she was a woman and a real human. She’s married to another showman and died after giving birth. Julia’s son inherited her syndrome and died two days later from newborn asphyxia. Afterwards, their bodies were embalmed and exhibited yet again.
