The discovery of penicillin is thought to be a breakthrough discovery in the medical world as it envisaged a journey to the discovery of antibiotics which are an essential part of any medical treatment. While the germ theory associated the cause of diseases to bacteria, the discovery of penicillin gave the scientists the tool to fight off infections.
