Due to safety concerns with the Interlagos circuit (it was 5-miles long and went through the slums of Sao Paulo) it was taken off the calendar for a number of years. It wasn’t until 1981 that the track was shortened and brought back to the calendar. It’s one of the few tracks that hasn’t lost its excitement, despite being adapted for a more safety-conscious era of F1
