Maruti Suzuki Celerio 

This new hatchback from the industry leader raked in ‘good’ sales volumes during the year, and has been made available in 6 petrol and 1 CNG run variants. The petrol variants namely, LXI, VXI, and ZXI boasted of both 5 speed manual and automatic transmission gearboxes. The VXI trim comes equipped with a CNG engine called Green VXI, which delivers an improved engine performance. In fact, the petrol trims run on a 998cc 1.0 litre 3 cylinder K series petrol powertrain spewing 67bhp and 90Nm of maximum power and torque figures. The CNG engine, too, belongs to the same class but churns out better fuel efficiency to the tune of 31.7km/kg. The price for this brand comes out in the range of Rs.4.0 lakhs to Rs.5.0 lakhs (Ex Showroom, Delhi).

The model earned its spurs, thanks to its stunning looks with neat cosmetics, capacious cabin space and standard safety features like an engine immobilizer, seat belts, a high mounted rear brake lamp, ventilated disc brakes on the front wheels, and advanced ones like ABS, and airbags for the front (for the top-end trim). 

Datsun Go 

This compact hatchback from the stable of Nissan is offered at a competitive price range of Rs.3.2 lakhs to Rs.3.9 lakhs (Ex Showroom, Delhi) and takes on rivals like Maruti Alto K10, Chevrolet Spark and Hyundai Eon. Available in 4 trims – D, D1, A, and T, the car is driven by an 1198cc 1.2 litre petrol powertrain that churns out maximum power and torque output of 67.06bhp and 104Nm, respectively. Also, the engine comes mated to a 5 speed manual transmission gearbox. This attractive compact hatchback garners better cabin room and design aesthetics, and its sturdy suspension system can be rightly considered as one of the many pluses the car possesses. Moreover, its robust safety fitments in the form of airbags, 3 point seatbelts, engine immobilizer et al, make it stand tall in the competition. 

Hyundai Xcent 

The compact sedan segment saw the launch of Hyundai Xcent in 7 petrol and 5 diesel variants at price points that ranged from Rs.5.1 lakhs to Rs.7.9 lakhs (Ex Showroom, Delhi). The diesel variants are equipped with an 1120cc 1.1 litre CRDi powertrain that produces 71bhp and 180Nm of max power and torque. Moreover, a 5 speed manual transmission gearbox helps the vehicle to accelerate at a decent pace. The petrol variants on the other hand, are driven by an 1197cc 1.2 litre Kappa dual VTVT powertrain that delivers 82bhp of maximum power and 114Nm of peak torque. Furthermore, there are options of a 5 speed manual or a 4 speed automatic transmission gearbox to go with the variants. 

Ford Figo 2014 

Sporting trims named LXI, EXI, ZXI and Titanium in both petrol and diesel fuel options, the 2014 edition of Ford Figo hatchback came at a price range of Rs.3.9 lakhs to Rs.6.2 lakhs (Ex Showroom, Delhi). The diesel run trims carry a 1399cc 1.4 litre Duratorq powertrain delivering 68bhp of max power and 160Nm of max torque. Similarly, the petrol trims run on an 1196cc 1.2 litre Duratec engine delivering 70bhp and 102Nm of maximum power and torque. Furthermore, a 5 speed manual transmission gearbox is connected to both types of engines.
