This is a small DIY project to make an electric motor at your home.
Materials required
- Copper Wire
- Paper Clips
- Wood (3″ 1X2)
- Neodymium Magnet
- Battery (AA)
- Insulated Wire
- Sand Paper
- Staple Gun and Staples
- Needle Nose Pliers
- Wire Strippers
- Wire Cutters
- Hot Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
Procedures
Step 1: Copper Wire Coil
- Using wire cutters take 3ft copper wire.
- Make a coil of the copper wire using AA battery as a winding template.
- Wind the wire for 15 times
- Now twist coil so as to ensure it remains tight.
- 2 inch wire should trail from both ends.
Step 2: Sanding the Ends of the Coil
- The trailing 2 ends are rubbed using sandpaper to remove the paint.
- This is done so as to have a good electrical connection between the battery and motor.
Step 3: Stand to hold the Coil
- Take a paper clip and bend it to form an L Shape.
- Fix this to a wooden stand.
- Similarly do this with another paper clip and place it at a distance of 3 inches.
- Unclipped part has to bend using Needle Nose wire-cutter so as to make a grip to hold the coil.
- Take 1ft of insulated wire and cut it into two.
- Rub the ends of the wire.
- Clip the rubbed ends of the wire to the clipped part of the paper clip using staple gun.
- Place the coil on the stand.
- Connect the two ends of the insulated wire to the AA battery.
- The coil may start rotating as its own. If not give a little push before starting.
- Then also not turning, then rub the end of the coil again.
Step 4: Magnet
1. Here neodymium magnet is used which is very powerful.
2. Place the magnet in between the paper clips.
3. Use hot glue gun to fix the iron.
Step 5: Working
- Place the coil on the stand.
- Connect the two ends of the insulated wire to the AA battery.
- The coil may start rotating as its own. If not give a little push before starting.
- Then also not turning, then rub the end of the coil again.
Your motor is ready.
