Clean Eating: Eliminating Unnecessary Chemicals From Your Family’s Food

2 Mins read

We live in a fast-paced world and depend on quick and convenient meals to get our families through the day. Unfortunately, there are lots of additives and chemicals in our foods that are unhealthy for us. Cleaner lifestyle habits and food choices will help your family avoid harmful toxins. There are easy steps to adopt more hygienic eating habits to get your family on a healthier path.

Clean Eating: Eliminating Unnecessary Chemicals From Your Family's Food

Avoid Canned Food and Plastic Containers

Use glass Tupperware instead of plastic containers to store your food. You won’t have to worry about a science experiment every time you heat up your food.

Also, many of the seals on canned food, especially commercially canned food, contain Bisphenol-A (BPA) that can migrate into your food and negatively affect your health. Eating food in its freshest and most natural state will be best for your overall health.

Avoid Non-Stick Pans

Opt for stainless steel or cast iron pots and pans instead of non-stick ones. While non-stick is convenient, Teflon releases chemicals in the air when it is heated. Aside from the health benefits of avoiding Teflon, many food connoisseurs agree that food should stick a little bit to the pan.  It helps the food crisp up well so that the final product comes out better.

Eat Better Quality Meat

The saying “you get what you pay for” certainly applies when it comes to meat choices. A large majority of our diet comes from animal products, so it’s essential to choose quality products. As much as possible, choose products that are free from artificial ingredients and antibiotics. Not only do these types of foods taste better, but they are better for you. If you can’t pronounce the ingredients on the package, it’s probably something you should stay away from.

One way to avoid additive-filled meat is to buy meat in bulk directly from the farmer. You can get all kinds of meat, from Berkshire pork to different types of beef. You can also likely get types of meat that are harder to find at the grocery store, such as lamb. By buying directly from the farmer, you’ll be better able to know exactly what is in the meat you eat.

Limit Processed Carbohydrates

Potato chips, cookies, and other junk that comes in a box are terrible for your body. These types of carbohydrates are unhealthy and can increase your risk of debilitating diseases. Additionally, to keep them fresh, manufacturers fill them with preservatives that can be dangerous to your health. You can make simple lifestyle changes, like replacing unhealthy snacks with fresh fruit and veggies to avoid these negative effects.

Select Organic Products

Organic products have fewer additives, and they break down a lot easier in the body. You will avoid many of the harmful effects of synthetic fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides that have no business being inside of your body.

The kind of food you eat directly affects how healthy your body is. Depending on what you eat yourself and your family, your food can be the source of many illnesses and sicknesses. You have control of how you store, eat, and prepare your food. With a little extra effort, you can create a lifestyle that keeps your family safe and healthy for years to come.
