Chevrolet Trailblazer SUV Review – AutoPortal’s assessment

American automobile giant Chevrolet is set to be part of into India’s booming premium SUV market by bringing the long-awaited Trailblazer SUV. Chevrolet India will be launching its new SUV, the Trailblazer on October 21, 2015. The Trailblazer excels in everything, right from its design and interiors to its excellent ride quality, safe driving dynamics and immense off-road ability.

Proportions

The SUV is 4.8 m long, 1.9 m wide and stands at a height of 1.8 m. The car weighs in at 2068 kg and has a wheelbase of 2,845 mm, with a massive ground clearance of 231 mm.

Strongly Built

On the looks front, the new Chevrolet Trailblazer SUV is burly. The front fascia of the Trailblazer is reminiscent of Chevrolet’s current design language with a large split-grille separating its projector headlamps. It is based on a ladder frame chassis and gets 18-inch wheels.

Spacious Interiors

The new Chevrolet Trailblazer SUV has black dashboard with beige upholstery, a Bluetooth-enabled touchscreen infotainment system, multifunction steering wheel, leather seats with electric adjustment for the driver and automatic climate control. The Trailblazer will be launched only in one variant and will have dual front air bags, ABS with EBD, Hill start assist, Traction control and hill decent control.

The second row seating is comfortable while the rear AC vents are placed on the roof of the car giving more leg-room and the SUV doesn’t disappoint on the headroom front either. There is also a rear view camera with park assist and buzzer warning and while overall the dash and the interiors works well, we wished there were some better plastics used and a better texture given to the power-window switches.

Engine Options

While globally there are two engine options available for the Chevrolet Trailblazer, the Indian market will get the higher-spec 200 PS 2.8-litre turbo diesel motor with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Duramax turbo-diesel engine churns out the power at 3,600 rpm and 500 Nm of torque at 2,000 rpm.  While 4-wheel drive is offered internationally, the Indian market gets a 2-wheel drive option. The fuel tank capacity stands at 76 litres. It will come in via the CBU route and will be available in a single top-spec LTZ trim. The engine is capable of pulling its immense weight to 100 kph from standstill in under 10 seconds.

Expected Price

The Trailblazer will be imported to the country as a completely built unit from Thailand and so it is expected to cost more. The 2-wheel drive Chevrolet Trailblazer is expected to be priced around Rs 27 lakh, just below the AWD Captiva.

Competitors

The Trailblazer puts it in direct competition with the Toyota Fortuner, Ssangyong Rexton, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport and 2015 Ford Endeavour.
