Motivating Yourself To Success: Habits To Make You A Better Version Of Yourself

4 Mins read

A lack of motivation and discipline is what stops us from becoming the best version of ourselves. It stops us from being successful and pursuing our goals. The thing is, we all have goals and we set specific time periods to achieve them however, more often than not, we exceed this period and we don’t manage to fulfil those goals which is down to a lack of discipline.

If you are someone who struggles with discipline then you may want to read this guide to help get yourself back on track to achieve your goals.

Add Goals To Your Calendar

Setting yourself goals is important but you also need a period for these. Setting yourself a timeline you wish to achieve these goals is a great way to motivate yourself and keep yourself disciplined.

This is also a good method to add structure to your goal and set yourself real expectations. For example, if you wish to complete a 10K run, consider signing up for a 10K run so you have a time period where you need to achieve this.

Turn Your Goals Into A Habit

Turning your goals into a habit is a great way to keep yourself disciplined. Doing this can be difficult so create a trigger for this. For example, think about the things you do every day and use them as trigger points. This could be anything such as having a coffee, brushing your teeth or even having your morning shower. Setting yourself a trigger point to turn your goals into a habit.

Be Prepared For Imperfection

There are times when we can be too optimistic, especially if the path towards our goal is on the right track. You must be prepared for disappointment. Think about going for a run every other morning, this time wouldn’t improve every day. In fact, there will be many days where you underperform and can’t reach your target time or duration. Consider the factors that could slow you down such as the weather, muscle tightness or just a lack of energy.

Now, you cannot prepare for everything so you need to understand that these issues can occur that become a hurdle for your goals.

Create A Set of Small Goals To Build Momentum

Setting yourself small goals is a great way to keep yourself motivated for your goal. Making small goals for you to achieve can help achieve your larger goals. For example, making your bed in the morning can be that small little win you need to achieve your next goal. It could also include going to the gym in the morning.

Let’s think about building a website. Building a website can take a lot of time but if you start by building the homepage, you have achieved one small goal. Then you need to build the other pages. Write down all the pages you must create and then tick them off. Eventually, you’ll get to the end goal and that small motivation has helped you remain disciplined all the way through.

Keep On Top Of Your Progress

Seeing your progress is another great way to ensure you are on the right path. It also provides you with the additional motivation you need to keep yourself disciplined. Additionally, you can use platforms like Trello, where you can write down all of your daily and weekly tasks which will eventually help you achieve your final goal.

Reward Yourself For Both The Small Wins and The Large Wins

Rewarding yourself is another great way to motivate yourself for your goals. This doesn’t mean paying yourself or purchasing items. If you are unsure about the list of things you can reward yourself with then here are a few suggestions, read a chapter of your book, take a short break, make a hot drink, go for a walk, meditate, relax your mind for a few minutes by having a quick break or make plans with a friend.

Make sure to create a list of all the things you can reward yourself with so you can enjoy your small wins even more. It can also be a larger reward such as buying bamboo panels for your back garden because you have been redesigning and de-weeding it.

Enjoy Positive Peer Pressure

Although you have to keep yourself motivated each day, you also have to embrace the motivation from other people. The ones who are supporting you are the people who peer pressure you the most. Remember, your best friends are the ones that keep you motivated and tell you to do better. Not the people who see you as competition.

Perform Gratitude When Needed

There have been many studies that have shown gratitude can help with self-improvement, build a better bond, improve motivation over a period of time, make you want to give back and improve overall health.

There are a few different ways you can embrace yourself with gratitude. One of those would be five minutes before bed, appreciating the smaller things in life such as your family being healthy, in a happy relationship or having a stable job are all the things you can embrace yourself with.

Consider Mood Lifting When You Are Demotivated

Another great way to keep yourself disciplined is to have a mood lifter when you are feeling sluggish. For example, when your alarm clock wakes you up, do you ever press snooze and repeat this process three, four or even five times? If that is you, find a quick mood booster that will help you attack the day. For example, consider doing some form of exercise such as star jumps, press-ups or even sit-ups. You could even go outside to get some fresh air and sunlight to help motivate you.

Remember Why You Are Doing This?

The ultimate motivator is remembering why you are doing it. Don’t just use the excuse that you just want to be rich. Consider something more meaningful than that such as paying for your children’s education, paying for private healthcare for your family or even paying off the mortgage of your parent’s home. Constantly reminding yourself of this is a great way to keep you on track with your goals and help you remain disciplined.

We all want to be rich but there is more to being rich than buying a fancy car or a luxury property. You must want to do it to give yourself and your family a better lifestyle that you can enjoy.

Final Opinions

There are many goals that you can set yourself; however, the overall goal should be to make yourself better. Achieving these goals will help you do that and you can only thank yourself for being disciplined all your life. No matter what your goals are, whether they are purchasing commercial property in Hull to help you retire early or build a business that can help pay off your mortgage. We all have different goals and many of us struggle with being motivated with those goals so you must find the best method to keep yourself disciplined.
