The Risks Of Being Overweight And How To Make A Change

2 Mins read

There are many risks associated with being overweight, and this article aims to highlight a handful of these risks as well as explain how to make a change should you decide you need to.

The Risks Of Being Overweight And How To Make A Change

What Is Meant by Overweight?

In this context, overweight is referring to a weight that, medically speaking, has a high chance to have a negative effect on your health and increases the risks you have of developing medical issues as a result of being overweight. This doesn’t mean that being overweight will always result in health problems, just that the risks are significantly higher.

What Are the Risks?

There are many health risks associated with being overweight, most of which can lead to further health problems themselves. These risks are one of the strongest reasons why it is important to address medically dangerous weight.

Varicose Veins. This condition refers to when a damaged valve causes bloated and twisted veins to develop. These are often painful and generally occur on your legs but could develop almost anywhere. These can be treated by specialists such as Vitality Vein Care but can also be indicative of larger problems such as high blood pressure.

Strokes. This is a blood clot or bleeding in the brain that can lead to permanent neurological damage. The reason being overweight puts you at higher risk of having a stroke is that high weight will often coincide with higher blood pressure, which could cause damage to blood vessels in the brain, causing them to burst.

Sleep Apnea and Other Breathing Problems. Sleep apnea refers to a potentially dangerous condition in which your breathing literally stops and starts as you sleep. There are several kinds of sleep apnea, but the most common is obstructive sleep apnea, in which your throat muscles relax when you sleep.

What Can You Do to Make a Change?

If you want to make a change in your weight, then there are plenty of routes that you can take to make that change reality; all you need is the determination to become healthier and the dedication to commit time to these changes.

Fix Your Diet. The first and possibly most challenging change that you will have to make in order to help you lose weight is to address your diet. Proper nutrition is a highly important aspect of personal health, but even a well-balanced diet can be unhealthy if you are eating too much. So, it is important to work towards eating healthy portions, as well as eating healthy foods. This does not have to be an immediate change either; in fact, it shouldn’t be. Work to gradually reduce the amount you are eating, and you will find it far easier to stick with your new diet than if you suddenly drop what you are eating to what would be considered a healthy amount.

Keep Yourself Active. Along with diet, proper exercise is an invaluable asset to help you lose weight and also improve your personal health. Exercise helps to strengthen muscles, increase circulation, lower blood pressure, and generally improve your health, making it easier to stick to your weight loss journey.
