Avoid slips, trips, and falls by replacing high pile carpet with low pile, and consider the slip rating of tile, hardwood, and prioritize laminating flooring to improve safety in high traffic areas.

Improve Safety in Stairs

As we age, climbing slick stairs is not safe. Consider adding an extra grip on your existing stairs to prevent stairs related falls. Non-slip tread mats will reduce friction on all types of stairs, while a grip tape will reduce friction on non-carpeted stairs.

Change to a Walk-in Tub

One of the most effective ways to boost your safety is to install handrails and grab bars. Bathrooms, staircases, bedrooms, and hallways can benefit from these safety bars to elevate your safety and stability as you navigate your home. According to experts, the ADA compliant handrails and grab bars can withstand up to 500 pounds of pressure. Grab bars offer additional stability near the toilet, shower, bath, or any other place in your home.

Aging can often affect stability. Because of this, it is imperative that you make some adjustments in your home for safety. Consider some of the simple solutions above to ensure your health and safety.
