Ludwig Reiter, founded 1885, is synonymous with Old World custom-made welted shoes. Their imperial officers’ riding boots, Budapester brogues and the Derby are coveted by dandies around the world.
Reiter’s street-cred comes from the retro sneakers launched in the 90’s. Skywalker, Rugby, and Trainer stand out very subtly. They look nondescript yet exclusive and, best of all, don’t have any screaming logos.
On many fashionistas’ wishlist are the Maronibrater—chestnut roasters—boots, normally made of felt and leather.
Reiter has other locations in town but the legendary Dreimäderlhaus is the one to visit —Schubert wrote an operetta of the same name and, legend has it, he was in love with one of the three maidens who lived in this crooked Biedermeier house.
