Fritz Wieninger is undoubtedly Vienna’s best vintner, exemplifying Austria’s ambitious new-generation of wine makers. After spending precious time perfecting his trade in the United States, he dedicated himself to making great international-class wines. The Wieninger Winery produces elegant rieslings and its cabernets have redefined quality standards for Viennese reds. A third of Wieninger’s wine goes to export.
With his brother Leo, he also cultivates a fine heurige (wine tavern): rustic and relaxed with excellent buffet and a la carte food, like foie gras with fig sauce or pastry-wrapped chicken in leek sauce, comparable to that of fine city restaurants. Start off your wine sampling with the Gelbermuskateller, ideal as a summer aperitif, or the Grüne Veltliner Herrenholz, Wieninger’s most popular export wine.
