Imaginative fine dining in the First District with reasonable prices and an unpretentious uniquely Viennese atmosphere? A definite go!
Housed in the 16th-century Palais Collato, the restaurant is on the ground and lower level with vaulted ceilings and contemporary carved wood walls. From the two small daily menus you can devise a six-course tasting menu. Start with stinging nettle ravioli with hops and sprouts, end with brie de meaux marninated in Grand Marnier. The wine selection is also very well tuned.
A true highlight of the “Dark Star” (Zum finsteren Stern) experience: summer al fresco dining in this quiet romantic cobblestone street where an occasional fiaker (horse carriage) passes by. With only ten tables outside, make sure to reserve in advance.
