When Rainer Christ succeeded his father as head of the winery Christ in 2004, his goal was to breathe new life into the over 400 year old farm/vineyard complex.

Enlisting the help of local architects, Rainer added new features such as a wine store, an outdoor area and winter garden, whilst fine-tuning the old heurigen taproom with the result now showcasing Christ as a shining example of the new Viennese school of wineries.

Fortunately devoid of tourist groups, checkered tablecloths and persistent musicians playing something that’s supposed to be original Wiener Lied, the family run kitchen serves up seasonal cuisine concocted with locally-sourced ingredients that goes down ever so smoothly when accompanied by one of Christ’s drops.

We highly recommend their Wiener gemischte Satz, a “blended wine” whose recipe involves pressing and fermenting different grape varieties at the same time. Christ offers two types of Sätze, a fresh young one (an everyday wine if you will) and a premium blend, sourced from vines that are more than 70 years old and featuring an opulent taste and a-you guessed it-full, rich body.
