Konditorei Oberlaa—the tuned-in pastry cafes strewn throughout the city—counts over 150 sweet delicacies on display and ready to eat. The Naschmarkt location is the sleekest, catering to “bourgeois bohémien” shoppers while, in the old town, the elegant Konditorei lies on the historic Neue Markt.
The revered Café Dommayer founded 1787 in Hietzing was recently acquired, but have no fear, the pianist and violinist still entertain patrons on weekends. We recommend taking a “curative” soak in the thermal mineral spa when visiting the original Kurkonditorei (roughly, “spa pastry shop”) at Therme Oberlaa.
More importantly, Oberlaa’s mind-blowingly delicious cakes and chocolates is what has us coming back for more. The mousse au chocolat torte is among the finest on the planet, while the signature Oberlaa Kurtorte, walnut sponge cake layered with chocolate mousse and nougat, cures all our sweet tooth ills.
