Possibly the most authentic heurige you’ll find in Vienna. Around 170 years old, Rath consists of a few benches under the shade of fruit trees on a small green meadow. The heuriger itself is ancient, well-preserved and unadulterated. All in all, almost a museum to heurige the way they used to be.
The only wine served is their Gemischten Satz (white wine cuvee) from their tiny vineyard. Consider yourself blessed if you happen to be around when Rath is “ausg’steckt”: the heuriger is open for only four weeks in June and August, sometimes a few days in September. To experience this heuriger is to have seen a dying culture that even many Viennese may never know.
