Forget your fancy Konditorei with the over-the-top desserts and the button-cute waitresses who serve them. Café Teitelbaum is a tiny gem hidden away in the basement of Vienna’s Jewish Museum where the mantra is decidedly less is more. While chef Gerhard Matzku brews a mean cup of coffee, the bottom line is: this guy bakes an excellent cake.

The selection is modest, but you’ll want for nothing. Come here for old-fashioned Linzertorte, poppy seed strudel or luscious, flaky raspberry tart that would rightly star at any Viennese table.
