It’s best to arrive at this adventure-zone by train. Designed by Austrian engineer Karl Ritter von Gega, the world’s first mountain railroad (built from 1848-54) passes through a scenic and historic route made up of 15 tunnels and 16 viaducts and conveniently whisks you straight away to the Alp mountain tops.
The Semmering Pass offers rich ski possibilities for anybody: world Championship racing trails, the largest European ski area with flood lights, gentle family slops or a fun park for snowboarding and tricks. The aprés ski highlight is the unique 3,5 km long toboggan run with artificial night lighting and various obstacles, tunnels and light effects.
And should your snow bunny friends get tired of pounding snow, visit the 30km tall watch-tower on Hirschkogel which provides an unadultered, panoramic view of the Alps.
