Tanzquartier Wien
Dance redefined

In the B.M. years (Before the Museumsquartier), the last thing Vienna needed was yet another stage heaving with prancing classical ballerinas. In 1991 the city endowed a new, much needed contemporary performance space, Tanzquartier Wien, where the boundaries between dance, performance and theater are blurred.

Tanzquartier Wien (TQW) is comprised of two locations—Hall G, with more than 300 seats, hosts performances from September through April, and in May and June the Tanzquartier Vienna Studios is devoted to smaller productions. The highlight of the contemporary dance season is the annual summer festival, Impulstanz, Vienna International Dance Festival where the TQW and other performance venues host avant-garde works by renowned local and international choreographers and performers.

In addition to performances, the TQW complex provides space for trainings and workshops, for research projects, showings, lectures and discussions.
