Kapuzinergruft
Capuchins’ crypt

Empress Maria Theresia supposedly said of the Kapuzinergruft (Capuchins’ Crypt): “This will be a good place to rest.” Hopefully it is true.

After all, the mortal remains of almost 150 Habsburgers rest here in massive lead and bronze coffins placed on lions’ shoulders, claw feet, marble pedestals, and decorated with skulls wearing imperial crowns.
