Projektraum Viktor Bucher The F word featured

Projektraum Viktor Bucher is a magnet for emerging contemporary international artists. With a focus on applied arts spanning design and architecture, it has been championing, promoting, supporting and bringing contemporary art works to public attention since 1995.

The gallery’s focus isn’t restricted solely toward art in its classical sense, actively encouraging artistic approaches with a touch of irony and taking a refreshingly liberal attitude toward that often maligned descriptor in the art world: ‘Fun’.

The gallery’s broad program of exhibitions and artists has brought interesting and regionally diverse young and promising practitioners to Vienna—many for the first time. Through exhibitions held here, artists have sparked interest both in Austria and internationally, helping them to develop and assert themselves globally.

Galerie Martin Janda Slapstick meets social politics

Committed to exhibiting politically and socially charged art, gallerist Martin Janda founded his eponymous gallery in 1992 in an effort to support artists with engaged agendas.

Representing both emerging artists and already established names, Janda has an eye for artists whose work is both playful and poignant. His roster includes Carsten Höller, Roman Signer, Allen Ruppersberg, Roman Ondak and Ene-Liis Semper, among others.

Galerie Grita Insam Head heavy

Internationally renowned, Galerie Grita Insam has a strong theoretical backbone supporting conceptually rigorous artists including IRWIN, Art & Language and Candida Höfer.

With a supporting program of symposia, workshops, lectures and discussions, the gallery also includes a storefront project space, which they often curate in conjunction with other Vienna galleries.

Since its conception in 1971, the gallery has exhibited conceptual art, providing a space for performances, sound installations, film and video works, among others. The gallery further promotes its program by participating in diverse international art fairs like ARCO (Madrid), Art Basel Miami Beach and FIAC (Paris).

Galerie Lukas Feichtner The engaged eye

Galerie Lukas Feichtner has tapped into the world of young contemporary artists, actively taking on the challenges of today’s art market with an open mind. Their tactic: keeping their eyes and ears open for undiscovered, up-and-coming artists.

Their keen eyes have clearly put them on top, winning them Vienna’s “The Engaged Eye” award, twice. Spreading their vision, Galerie Lukas Feichtner participates in a plethora of international art fairs from ArtForum Berlin to Art Moscow to PULSE, Miami.

Producing an average of eight exhibitions a year, the gallery focuses on international and Austrian artists.

Galerie nächst St. Stephan Tradition of modernity

In line with its historic location, Galerie nächst St. Stephan has been around for decades, but has yet to grow old. Sitting in its original city-center location since its founding in 1920, the gallery is no where near a relic of the past.

As everything surrounding the gallery changed throughout the years, the space and art has stayed consistently contemporary. Primarily supporting concept-based international artists working with painting, sculpture, installations, photography and video the gallery has recently exhibited artists including Jessica Stockholder, Imi Knoebel and Katherina Grosse.

BAWAG Foundation A penny for your thoughts

Even at the time of its foundation in 1974, the program of the BAWAG Foundation was aimed at promoting the dialogue between art and those interested in it. The Bank für Arbeit und Wirtschaft (Bank for Work and Economy) was one of the first Austrian companies that had taken on responsibility of actively supporting and propagating art.

None of their exhibitions have been profit-oriented, and admission is still free. Since 1995, the BAWAG Foundation has focused on contemporary art. Apart from its exhibition work, the foundation also actively builds its private collection.
