Since its inception in 1965, the Los Angeles Community Museum of Art has assumed the task of collecting artworks spanning both history and geography that accurately reflect and represent LA’s distinctive, diverse population. Today, LACMA has built-up exceptionally strong collections of Asian, European, and South, Central and North American pieces; it also hosts a dynamic contemporary art collection on its campus.
Aside from their near-encyclopedic art collection, LACMA features innovative, internationally-inflected live concerts and independent film screenings in a classy movie theater, along with a compelling lecture series and even fine-art courses. Their library houses a formidable selection of art publications and books, and even a fashion research center with original textile designs and period fashion plates. Visit their programming section for current activities and exhibitions.
