Tel Aviv
Farmers Market
Slow food, quick sales

The idea of a farmers market evokes freshness and quality, but until recently the notion remained completely alien to Israel—until two Tel Aviv locals decided it was time to establish one in their own city. Firmly grounded in the slow food movement, founders Shir Halpern and Michal Anksy have built up a market of fresh, local produce, with plentiful samples to lure a sale. Since the successful launch of the Tel Aviv Farmers Market in 2008, there are now four other similar, thriving marketplaces across the city. Offering consumers a more ecological, biodiverse and vibrant alternative to the sterile surrounds of a supermarket, the Farmers Market is a lively place where you can find Tel Aviv’s best quality produce: free from plastic bags, and free from the middleman.
