For those who find Ding Tai Fung too swanky and Nanxiang Mantou Dian ridiculously touristy, we have another suggestion and we assure you it is good — Linlong Fang Specialty Xiaolongbao is operated by the same people who own Jia Jia Tang Bao and wins over its sister restaurant with a neighborhood location sans tourists.
The eatery is fuss-free and clean, down to its open kitchen concept à la Ding Tai Fung stripped to the basics where you see the all-female staff in action. ‘Xiaolongbaos’ come in steamers of 12, in a variety of options ranging from the basic pork dumpling (RMB 7.50 for 12) to the extravagantly-rich pure crab filling (RMB 81 for 12). Expect delicately-thin wrapper skin and non-greasy soupy goodness whichever option you pick. Just don’t forget to ask the waitress for a spoon because you will need it if you want to savor the broth without burning your tongue.
