Compared to most Chinese temples crowded with worshipers vying for space to light their incense (an integral aspect of prayer allowing communication with the spirits), the Confucian temple, Wenmiao, offers a serene atmosphere ideal for appreciating the spiritual grounds at your own pace.
Take your time as you explore the several prayer halls and the Chinese landscaped garden with its koi pond and small pagoda. A lovely alternative to the nearby Yu Garden bustling with throngs of loud, incessantly photograph-snapping tourists, Wenmiao provides a peacefulness that you’ll no doubt be grateful to enter.
Every Sunday from 7:30am-3:30pm a book market takes place in the main courtyard.
