Guide
Sao Paulo
25hrs with Amanda Justiniano
Artist

Amanda Justiniano, born in São Paulo in 1982, has a degree in visual arts and works as a freelance graphic designer. She loves: live music, kind people, every animal and intuitive art—not necessarily in that order.

She thinks one of Caetano Veloso’s most famous songs about the city describes the fascinating city perfectly: “…when i arrived here I understood nothing!…”. For her, the frenetic rhythm of the city means having to (re)adapt all the time, giving the opportunity to discover new places on a daily basis.

Places in this guide

In this nice 24 hours bakery you can either take a coffee to start the day or eat pizza to end the night – usually after going to a club in Paulista region. The place is a mix of traditional bakery, restaurant, snack bar, pizzeria and mini market. Really tasty!

This three decades old record shop is not only the best place to find national and international musical rarities and limited edition cds and LPS, but also to discover more about São Paulos indie music scene. My second home… “…a contemporary art gallery that has a strong link with underground culture, Since its first show, in 2004, Choque has become a safe harbor for artists coming from such different places as tattoo, graffiti, graphic design and illustration among others. Choque Cultural is based in Sao Paulo, Brazil, a big city that is known by the art spread by its street walls, by the big number of talented graffiti artists and by the originality of the works that spring out everyday. All this creative energy is at ease inside the gallery with its ever changing environment, carefully painted by the artists, what makes each show an installation…”

  • Bar da Dida Nice and simple

This little bar in a garage is a lovely alternative to the always crowed bars around Paulista. It doesn’t have more than ten tables on the sidewalk and a small desk with banks inside.
Dida (the owner) is usually there and helps to prepare great toasted sandwiches while she puts the best of jazz, Brazilian and indie music to play. To drink, theirs beer, different types of cachaça and exotic caipirinhas. A great friendly atmosphere that brings together all kinds of people.
