At “Grind@ALôca” parties, “shake it!” is the only possible mantra. Besides offering São Paulo’s best and strangest Sunday night out, A Lôca is also—at 13 years—one of its oldest underground clubs. It takes something special to stick around that long in a city has as ephemeral a night life as Sao Paulo: A Lôca may not be flashiest place in town, but it definitely is the craziest.
The experience begins at the door, where guests are greeted by one of several glittering drag queen hostesses. Inside, mythological creatures in S&M gear rub shoulders on the dance floor to an always danceable sound track that jumps from pop and disco to house and electro, depending on the night. And the entertainment doesn’t stop there: a glamorous drag show or two never fails to cheer up even the most grumpiest of crowds.
