Foreign Cinema fuses art-house entertainment and Mediterranean cuisine in an industrial-chic atmosphere. The Mission Street restaurant earns its name by screening independent and international films enhanced with fab food and cocktails under a canopied, outdoor patio. For a warmer ambiance, venture indoors and get cozy in Foreign Cinema’s large, fireside dining room.
Its cuisine is consistently impressive, with daily specials, such as the August Antipasto with prosciutto, Champagne grapes, cantaloupe and fromage blanc or a flaky halibut with white corn, summer squash, chanterelle mushrooms and roasted fig. To call this menu divine would be an understatement, although vegetarians will have to make a special request to the chef. The film selection is thoughtfully curated, with runs from three to four weeks. After dinner, consider scoping out the interconnected, but independent, Lazlo bar. With nightly live DJ sets, the club’s dance floor appeals to the well-heeled, but hip traveling set.
