For a city so brightly emblazoned with ‘queer,’ a term suggesting the full LBGT spectrum, there is a woeful dearth of lady-centric bars in San Francisco. Not so at Lexington Club, a dive bar tucked snugly in an alleyway between the helter-skelter hustle-and-bustle of Mission and Valencia streets. With crowds of broads and babes that swell to a full tilt no matter the night of the week, ‘The Lex’ is the ladies’ destination of choice for lesbians of all persuasions, whether your prefer lipstick and a strapless tube dress or a backwards baseball cap and strap-on.
Famed for its Penny Shot Nights (literally every shot costs but one-cent) and Friday Margarita Nights, The Lex isn’t where girls go to get drunk, it’s where they go to get drunk, stay late, cause a riot on the crowded ad-hoc dance floor, make-out on a barstool shoved into a dark corner and burst into song-and-dance on the sidewalk in front of the bar. If it’s possible to have a bad night at The Lex, it sure hasn’t happened yet.
