While many refer to Reed Space as, simply, the “Jeff Staple store”, that would only be a half-truth. Seeing itself as a pioneering “lifestyle boutique”, Reed Space caters towards much more than the multimedia prowess of Staple’s design work, and stocks a careful inventory of the world’s best-known “streetwear” and sneaker brands including Adidas Consortium, Converse First String, Penfield and Stussy Deluxe.
Though best regarded for their footwear―which surely includes the Illuminati of sneaker design brands―Reed Space also sells a healthy variety of outerwear, tees, art prints and publications. On occasion the space, as well as the neighboring Reed Annex, is used to host art openings and exhibitions of closely connected designers and talents from New York as well as Japan, where Reed Space’s sister store is located. Yet don’t be fooled by it all; just because streetwear doesn’t involve a couture mindset does not mean it lacks any haute aspirations at all.
