Those shopping at Rag & Bone may not be out for the most exuberant of styles, but they’ll look damn sophisticated in a city ever-wary of appearing too extroverted. The West Village storefront for the New York brand caters strongly to their new collections while giving about equal sway between their men’s and women’s inventories.
Originally founded as a jeans brand in 2002 by business partners David Neville and Marcus Wainwright, Rag & Bone quickly began designing full collections for both men and women. The name is telling enough: a “rag-and-bone” is a British term that refers to haggardly men who scavenge for disregarded items and sell them on to merchants. Though you will certainly not appear haggardly after shopping here, you may just possibly carry off a whiff of English gentle(wo)man.
