Perhaps minus a flannel shirt and fixie bike, the most telling thing that will differentiate a born-and-bred Greenpoint resident from a hip newcomer is their heritage. Known to some as “Little Poland”, a trot down Manhattan Avenue will reveal many slavic signs and bakeries specializing in sweet Polski treats. Guarding the crown jewels of it all are two iron knights that watch over the entryway of the restaurant Krolewskie Jadlo.
More of a Greenpoint legend than institution, Krowlewskie Jadlo presents a king’s feast of Polish specialities. Traditional, heaping portions of their best dishes come standard, from roasted duck legs with apples, to stuffed cabbage, to meat balls made of venison and served with mushroom truffle sauce. Noshing, not nibbling, is the way to go about your meal here, while still planning to have some room left over for dessert. If eating a lot is the Polish way, then this restaurant is a monument to a bloated, yet blissful, belly.
