Carved out of a coral-rock quarry in 1923, Miami’s Venetian Pool is included in the National Register of Historic Places.
Everyday this 820,000 gallon pool is filled with fresh spring water, which funnels into two waterfalls, coral caves and grottoes. The structures around the pool are rendered in Venetian-style architecture and were designed by Denman Fink, uncle of the founding father of Coral Gables, George Merrick.
Together with architect Phineas Paist, the small team miraculously transformed a rock pit into the world’s most beautiful swimming haven, complete with expansive loggias, porticoes, a palm-fringed island, beach and cobble-stone bridge.
