The stretch of Kingsland Road heading up towards Hackney and Dalston may not be exactly renowned for its contributions to the world of luxury fashion. But that’s part of the curious charm of the Storm in a Teacup boutique.
A stone’s throw from local eatery, A Little of What You Fancy, Storm in a Teacup is the creation of enigmatic stylist Joe Miller (who’s worked with everyone from Agent Provocateur to Vivienne Westwood) and his model-girlfriend Claudia Raba. Packed into the small space, stock focuses on a handpicked, rather eclectic selection of designer men’s and womenswear including Martin Margiela, Issey Miyake and Vivienne Westwood. The store, meanwhile, is a charming bit of set design with Wild West saloon-esque feel throughout, a spider’s web of ceiling rafters and plenty of raw pine and reclaimed railway timber. And just for bonus bizarre points, the till is also a fully-stocked, traditional English sweet-shop, helping make the overall experience as delightful as being a kid in a candy store. Or in this case an adult in a candy store.
