As informed urbanites, we’re responsible not only for our fashion sense, but more importantly, how we relate to others. Picking up on that notion, each season, Maison Martin Margiela produces a new t-shirt that fuses charity and style by donating a percentage of the proceeds from the shirts’ sales to the French AIDES association. First created in the autumn/winter of 1993/4, and evolving with new patterns and colourways each season, the shirt states ‘There is more action to be taken to fight AIDS than to wear this t-shirt, but it’s a good start’.
So right off the bat you already have a good reason to pop by the Maison and take something home. Although we can think of many more reasons to browse the latest Margiela collection for dark, smart, sleek cuts that’ll have men and women alike looking like a million bucks. The shop itself is artfully designed and the emblem of chic. As soon as you’re greeted by the charming, chillaxed staff and take a butchers (look) at the understated, intelligently designed apparel, the other merits of Martin’s endeavors will become blatantly apparent.
