Scroobius Pip
Writer/Musician

In 2005 Scroobius Pip quit his day job and started doing spoken word, touring the country living in a 1987 space cruiser. A year later he started working with a beat making gentleman called dan le sac and in 2007 they released their first single, Thou Shalt Always Kill. From that point they continued making records and toured everywhere from the UK to America, mainland Europe to Japan. At the end of 2010 they decided to take some time off from touring to work on their third record and a few side projects.

Places in this guide

  • Odeon West End Fanatical about film

Living in Essex it’s insanely hard to find anywhere to watch anything other than big Hollywood blockbusters. This is one of the places I visit regularly to catch a wider variation of cinema.

  • Curzon Soho Cinema for arthouse lovers

Another cinema! This place is a true gem though. It gives a lot of foreign and independent films their UK debuts. It also regularly holds screenings that are followed by Q&As with the directors.

  • The Book Club An instant classic

It may seem bias that I choose the bar in which I run a club night but I picked it because it’s so good! In Shoreditch there are SO many pubs and bars that, at times, can be too cool for their own good. The Book Club just has a more laid back vibe than a lot of those other places.

  • Plastic People Happy slaps

I used to come here years ago to catch loads of great US underground hip hop (Sage Francis, Sole, Dose One, etc). In the years since, it’s pretty much single handedly given the world Dubstep and continues to put on loads of great nights.

  • Jaguar Shoes No bags, no shoes, get merry

I always love popping in here for a few drinks. The cavernesque basement area always has a really nice feel to it.

  • Victoria Park It's not easy being green

Victoria Park is lovely. With a huge lake and loads of winding paths running through it, it really is a lovely escape from the mayhem of London town.

  • Barbican Culture city

I love just strolling around this place. From Barbican tube station there is a yellow line painted on the floor leading you to the centre. But it’s the flats (behind the Barbican) and water features that I always find so enchanting. The juxtaposition of modern and classic architecture, along with some of the greenery that makes you forget you are in a city.

  • Horniman Museum Hidden treasure

I used to go here all the time as a kid. It’s a lovely little museum with a really warm feel about it. Not as grand and touristy as some of the big London Museums but far more enjoyable.
