A crucial component of Tom Conran’s Notting Hill empire, this upscale burger bar dishes out a British take on American comfort food. A firm favourite with the locals, its small size and notoriously laid-back service do nothing to dent its appeal. Lucky 7 looks every inch the funky, retro diner it is with rows of booths (patrons are often asked to squeeze in together), a black and white tiled floor and an open grill kitchen. Although, the place is so busy on the weekends—especially at brunch—that the impact of the decor is somewhat at odds with colourful streams of customers arriving, scarfing and departing.
The menu is cluttered with Americana-inspired options—there’s an impressive six variants on the classic hamburger, all served with properly plump fries, not to mention a decent chili and several grilled sandwiches on offer. Yet breakfast for many is the main event. Eggs in all styles of preparation are served up with a smile, and their blueberry pancakes are the ultimate diet destroyer. Wash it all down with a heavenly vanilla malt shake, or head to Crazy Homies next door and digest over a Bloody Mary.
