E Pellicci is a culinary institution; an authentic family-run East End cafe that’s been in business for over 100 years. The Pelliccis have served traditional English and Italian fare to some of London’s most famous (Gilbert and George), and infamous (the Krays) clientele since the cafe was first built in 1900. Beyond the food, you’ve got to respect it for having remained one of the only bona fide slices of East End life amongst the abundance of self-aware trendiness prevalent in East London today.
The art deco interior is grade II-listed, and decorated in true cafe chic style: marquetry paneling, laminate wood tables and walls decorated with framed family portraits. You’re guaranteed a warm welcome and great value cafe cuisine. Breakfasts include classic greasy fry-ups with the standard fixings of eggs, sausage, bacon and beans in just the right preparation and proportions. For lunch, try the homemade steak pie—a dish so substantial you won’t need to eat again until the next day. Whatever you order, you’re in for a treat. True pukka tukka fare served with a side of East End social history.
