It’s been around since 1929, and is one of London’s most original spa venues. Stepping inside this grade 2 listed building, complete with white and green original tiles, high ceilings and creaking mahogany interiors, you feel as though you’ve stepped back into the heady, steam-filled spa-going days of yesteryear, when portly businessmen cut deals in the steam room and wealthy wives popped in to perfect their breaststroke and tighten their pores.
In terms of history then, it gets a definitive thumbs up. But fluffy white towels and luxurious creature comforts this isn’t. We’d even go so far as to say it could use a firm spit and polish to bring it up to speed with London’s numerous other day spa venues. But that’s not to say it’s without merit; two whopping great pools for serious swimmers await, as do two spacious Russian steam rooms and an affordable, oceanic inspired spa menu for ladies and gents to indulge in.
