Established in 1891, the Mitcham Golf Club has stayed pretty much the same ever since. Its greens do not conform to modern USGA standards, but this parkland course is the closet 18-holer to central London: the train ride from Victoria Station takes about 20 minutes.
The Mitchum, like most golf clubs, adheres to an archaic dress code, so avoid the crazy couture. No Evisu jeans, John Galliano vests, Y-3 tracksuits or Supreme t-shirts: Lyle and Scott golf shoes – preferably black patent leather brogues – and Maharishi trousers with tone on tone embroidery are more the Mitchum’s style. Green fees begin at £10.00, so perhaps you can afford to splurge on a new wardrobe.
